lyrics
I got your postcard from St. Louis
it was nice of you to send
I love the way you signed it,
“Dear old friend”
Hope you're thinkin’ of me fondly
When you make it to LA
Remember how we joked about
Us living there someday
Don't ya go and write me a letter from
Marietta, Georgia where you don’t sleep alone
I made peace with your travels,
my composure unravels
Staring at that postal code
I'm here and you're gone
And I believe that's for the better
And I’m content to be your pawn
With each sweet half-hearted gesture
But I don’t need to know
the weather down in Marietta
Dear, I don't need to know
the weather down in Marietta
I expect a call from Eugene
With a case about the clouds
And an echo ‘cross the country
When you shout my name out loud
And my, my, when you’re in Telluride
I’ll be waitin’ on a snowy card
That mountain air, it can't keep ya long
Well, you got my sincerest regards
Don't ya go and write me a letter from
Marietta, Georgia where you don’t sleep alone
I made peace with your travels,
my composure unravels
Staring at that postal code
I'm here and you're gone
And I believe that's for the better
And I’m content to be your pawn
With each sweet half-hearted gesture
But I don’t need to know
the weather down in Marietta
Dear, I don't need to know
the weather down in Marietta
And now I’m thinkin’ you don’t like me
and that’s fine, I’m happy here
I prefer New England seasons
and my vision's getting clear
Forget me and my troubles
Don’t pretend you miss this face
This is the last time I’ll be writin’
Please don’t talk about that place
Don't ya go and write me a letter from
Marietta, Georgia where you don’t sleep alone
I made peace with your travels,
my composure unravels
Staring at that postal code
I'm here and you're gone
And I believe that's for the better
I’m not content to be your pawn
With each sweet empty-hearted gesture
And I don’t care to know
the weather down in Marietta
Dear, I don't care to know
the weather down in Marietta
I've been listening to this album over and over again since Youtube suggested me "What Did You Mean (When You Said Love)". Every single song is really beautiful. I think my favourite is Lily Of Casablanca, but I could spend a whole day listening to Fog In The Mirror on repeat. And, of course, What Did You Mean By Love. kaiserroyo
Released in 2001, “The Convincer” is a gentle gem in the Nick Lowe catalog; an anniversary edition provides opportunity for rediscovery. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2021
Erudite chamber pop that hearkens back to the elegant and experimental production of the 1960s, swinging from melancholia to playfulness. Bandcamp New & Notable May 13, 2016
